Our Choir
As the premier choir of Aurora Christian School, we are intent on studying and performing diverse, challenging, entertaining, and beautiful music in a variety of settings. We are a 30 voice, mixed ensemble with singers in 9th-12th grades. Our choir has a tradition of excellence and we carry that on from rehearsal to rehearsal so that it may be present from performance to performance.
Some of our goals are as follows:
1. To improve our performance ability.
2. To recognize, identify, and apply advanced elements of music.
3. To analyze critically our own and others' musical performance using music vocabulary.
4. To contribute positively to a musical ensemble as an individual.
5. To corporately contribute to our school and community.

Thoughts from the Choir
"The ACS choir has always been a really fun and uplifting environment, as well as a great creative outlet. We really are a family. I’ve always chosen to make the class a priority in my busy schedule whenever possible because I love the laughs and the spirit of joy that exists in that room. We have a lot of fun, but we also know when to work hard and work well to be the best choir we can be. Mr. Moore definitely embodies that spirit of having fun without sacrificing excellence. This is a class I look forward to everyday not only for the music, but for the people."

ACSI Music Festival
"ACSI is definitely an experience that you don’t want to miss. I look forward to it every year, not just for the amazing music, but for all the memories we make. Not only do we get to bond with each other, we form a bond with the entire choir through the music we are singing. If you can, please do not miss out on this trip! It really is unforgettable!" -Emily B. '21
ACSI Musical Festival is commonly cited as the favorite event of the year. It is one of those weekends with a lot of (structured) freedom for the HS Choir singers. On a Friday in March, we invade the campus of beautiful Olivet Nazarene University along with hundreds of other students from Christian schools all over Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin and spend hours rehearsing music with these new choir buddies. The choir has down time and a relaxing evening at a hotel in Bourbonnais together on Friday evening and then in the afternoon on Saturday we perform in the lovely and large Centennial Chapel. It's a truly great weekend!

Q- What was your favorite memory from ACSI?
A- My favorite memory in choir happened during the lunch period of my last ACSI as a senior. A group of classmates and I decided to create raps on the fly, and eventually we got multiple schools to join us! -Shaheen K. '17

Thoughts from the singers
"I couldn't honestly tell you which of our songs is my favorite, but I can say that one of the best things about the pieces we perform is the variety of styles and languages we study and sing in. Within my first year alone we sang in German, Latin, Italian, English, and something I'm pretty sure was complete gibberish (Fact Check: TRUE). My point is, beyond being an extremely fun class, High School Choir is rewarding, and there really isn't any other way to experience culture and art quite like it."

Nursing Home Tour
This is a really special event. We visit nursing homes in the Aurora area (Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, and Oswego, for example). We perform about 30 minutes of varied music and then we spend half an hour or more visiting with the residents. Without question, this is one of the best opportunities students have to reach out to our community and communicate with a demographic with which they may not have a lot of contact. Above all, we bring light, joy, humor and attention to a lot of really sweet people who appreciate our students' time and effort.
They are always our best audiences.

Orpheus Choir Visit
Orpheus ("OR-fe-us") Choir from Olivet Nazarene University visited Aurora Christian to provide a brief in-school concert in the Spring. They shared well-prepared music with powerful, Scriptural lyrics. Afterward, we shared lunchtime with them. It was a crowded meal space, but very enjoyable! Incidentally, Orpheus was Mr. Moore's choir at Olivet, so it is like having his two choir families meet.
